Don’t forget - it’s the Fun Run this week and sausages for lunch on Friday!

Koanga Festival
  • Saturday 2nd September is the Koanga Festival at Somerville Intermediate Hall at 10am.
  • Our school Kapa Haka group will be performing.  The students have been working really hard learning and perfecting their routine.  It is a gold coin donation at the door, come along and support our students.
WOW with AT
  • We are taking part in the challenge that encourages children to use sustainable modes of travel to school.
  • Each morning the children will record how they travelled to school. If they walked, scootered, cycled or used public transport they will earn their class a WOW!
  • The class with the most WOWs will win a trophy at assembly. If you live too far away to allow your child to walk, scooter or bike, then you can drop them on the corner of O'Halloran and Juliet or Angelo and Willoughby.
  • This will count as a walking WOW. Please encourage your children to take part by earning their class lots of WOWs! This will help decongest Willoughby Ave and keep our children safe.

  • To keep your child safe please:
- make sure students that are cycling or scootering wear a secure helmet.
- ensure an adult accompanies Junior school students.
- take home Junior school bikes and scooters before school starts.
- ensure your child walks once you reach the school gate
- ensure Senior school students walk their bike or scooter to the racks, which are behind room 7.  The school is not responsible for any damage or loss.
Fun Run
  • Wednesday 30th August is Fun Run Day
  • Once you have done the run - you need to collect  the money from your sponsor and bring it back to school and put it in the PTA box outside the office
  • Don’t forget to choose your prize!!
Reminder - absent children
  • If your child is going to be absent from school, please contact the school office.
  • Alternatively, you could leave a message on the absence line or use the HPS app
Maths Craft
  • Auckland Museum is hosting the annual Maths Craft Festival
  • 9 - 10 September 10.00 -5pm
  • No booking is required. Entry to the festival is free with a museum ticket (which is free for NZ residents).

The Parenting Through Separation Programme  
  • Provided free of charge by the Ministry of Justice for parents who are in the process of separating or who have separated.
  • The programme is delivered by a psychologist from Triple P New Zealand Ltd.
  • Next session:  Saturday, September 9th at 9.30 – 1.30.
  • To register call Triple P (09) 579 1794.
Uniform
  • 2017 is the final year for wearing the old style uniform e.g. grey striped shirt.  
  • In 2018 ALL students will be wearing the new style that has been phased in over the past two years.

It’s Book fair this week - come along and take a look!
Te Tuhi trip
  • Reminder that Room 16 will be going to the Te Tuhi Centre and the Pakuranga Library this Tuesday the 15th of August.  
  • A reminder letter will be coming home on Monday.  
Book Fair
  • The Scholastic Book Fair will be in our  library from 14th August -18th August
  • The opening times are from 8.30 - 4.00 every day of week 4
  • Come along and have a look at the wonderful books for sale and lots of other exciting things to buy
Tennis sessions
  • H.P.S. is lucky to have a series of free tennis  sessions for our students.
  • Howick Tennis Club  is providing these free lessons to introduce our students to tennis
  • Lessons will go from weeks 3-8
  • Each class will have 6 lessons.
  • Room 9's lessons will be on Thursdays .
  • Children can bring a change of clothes - t-shirt, shorts and a pair of sports shoes.
  • If your child would like to continue playing tennis, a flyer will come home with them detailing the information
Fun Run
  • Have you started collecting sponsors yet?
  • Fill in the back of the booklet with the names of your sponsors
  • Once you have done the run - you need to collect  the money from your sponsor and bring it back to school and put it in the PTA box outside the office
  • We have sent a copy of the sponsor form last week in case you needed another copy
  • Don’t forget to choose your prize!!
Reminder
  • School starts at 8.50 a.m. and all students are expected to be in the classroom by then.
  • The classroom is open from 8.30 a.m. which, from Monday next week, will be signaled by a bell.
  • Please note, the children are not to be in the classroom prior to 8.30, as the teachers need time to prepare for the day.  
Farewell Assembly
  • You are warmly invited to attend Mrs. Gosnell's Farewell Assembly which is in the hall on Friday 18th August at 2 p.m.
HPS Got Talent
  • On Wednesday 16th August the Student Leaders are presenting the very first ‘HPS GOT Talent’
  • All children and parents are invited to come along and watch the ‘acts’
  • Tickets available at the door for $2 per person and this includes popcorn
Up and coming event - support the PTA
  • The PTA is hosting a quiz night on 25th August
  • $15 per head on tables of 8
  • Food and drink available

How do you travel to school? Keep reading to learn about an exciting opportunity happening which starts next week!


Book Fair
  • The Scholastic Book Fair will be in our school library from 14th August -18th August
  • The opening times are from 8.30 - 4.00 every day of week 4

Bake Sale
  • The Bake sale is on Thursday 10th August  - please bring a $2 OR $1 coin ONLY

Staff Training
  • On Tuesday 8th August 2017 the school office and all classrooms will be locked until approximately 8:40 am for staff training.  Cloak bays will be open for students to drop their bags in.
