Cultural Mufti
  • HPS Celebrates this as our Cultural Mufti Day
  • Cost $2 for the mufti.
  • Funds go to: World Vision.
  • Dress up: Wear clothing that represents a different culture from anywhere in the world, perhaps where your parents or grandparents were born or a country that you are interested in.
3pm hometime
  • For the safety of the children, we ask that all children in Y0-2 are collected by a parent/family member or sibling from the classroom.
  • Please contact the school office if someone else will be collecting your child
  • If you would like your Y2 child to walk home with siblings or on their own, please speak to your child’s class teacher to make an alternative arrangements
Support the PFA
  • The PTA will be selling chocolates, Yum! Chocolates will be given out to students next Friday 9th June (Wk 6) A box of 36 chocolates will go out with the eldest and only.
  • Families will have two weekends to sell. Payments and unsold chocolates to be returned to school on or before Monday 19th June.  
  • We thank our families in advance for their support :)
Curriculum Evening
  • HPS is hosting a “How you can help at home” evening in the school hall on Thursday, June 15th from 6pm - 7pm.  The hall be set up with Literacy and Maths stations to provide a range of ways you can support your child at home with their learning.  
  • Childcare is available in the library for HPS students if required - please let your child’s teacher know if you would like to use this service

  • Please check the child’s class blog for weekly letters and other info
  • Take a look at our latest photos of our learning.
Absences
  • Parents are asked to telephone the school office or report it on the HPS School app by 9am if their child will be absent.
  • HPS operates an answerphone service at all times to make this process easy for families.  When leaving a message, we need to know your child’s first name, last name, room number and the reason for their absence.  
  • If the absence is due to medical reasons, please supply a medical certificate to the school office if your child has been absent for 3 days or longer.

  • Family photograph session at school Saturday 10th June
  • Money raised goes to Student Leader trip to Wellington

If I were King or Queen for a day....


If I were the King I would to watch Cars 3 and Captain Underpants or the little Slaves could make me a cake. - Eesaa

I would buy anything and eat anything.  I would be famous buy diecasts for me and buy a lamborgini, be a super hero, be famous, and be rich.  I would go to the movies to see Cars 3  and Captain Underpants Matthew and Xavier. - Jayshaan

I would wear a purple and blue dress with sparkles.  I would eat Strawberries and drink tea.  I would draw all day long, I will tell people to clean my room. - Callie

I would tell people to clean my bedroom and make my breakfast.  It would be great to have servants. - Wendy

If I were a Queen I would get lots of jewelry and lots of pretty dresses and a shiny crown. - Olivia

If I were King I would make people clean my room and test my food for me.  I would have the whole set of Captain Underpants books and treasure.  - Xavier

If I were King I would get people to get jewelry for me and go shopping. - Mokai

If I were the Queen I would tell my servants to get my clothes and my food and then make my bed. - Mckayla

If I was a Queen I would tell everyone to do everything and I would see if some poor people wanted some food and clothes.  I would be the best i the world and I would have dogs and cats and kittens and puppies. - Keisha

If I were Queen I would go to the shop I will tell my soldiers to buy snacks like chips, gummy bears, toys, lego and jelly.  It would be yummy!  This would be the best day ever.

Thank you to everyone who attended Grandparents day, it was a great day and the kids loved sharing everything with you.  Remember no school on Friday it is a Teacher Only Day!

Mathletics & Reading Eggs
  • A reminder to have continued access to these programmes the activity fee needs to be paid to the office.
Uniform  
  • The correct school uniform is to be worn at all times
  • If your child wears non - uniform items, a letter telling you about this will be sent home
Yummy stickers
  • Don’t forget to save the yummy stickers and stick them on the sheet
  • Completed sheets can be returned to school and a new one taken
Class blogs
Teacher Only Day
  • School is closed for children on Friday 2nd June due to a Teacher Only Day
    and on Mon 5th June - Queen’s Birthday
Garden Club
  • Miss Malzard (Rm 3) has started a Garden club with the Senior children
  • They will be completing some small garden and cooking projects around the school.
  • If you (or any friends and family) have any spare fruit or veges that you don't eat, please feel free to bring them into school and our garden club will use them.
  • There is a charity called 'Community Fruit Harvesting' who go to your house and pick any fruit you do not want and then donate it to charity. Here is the link to their website if you want to find out more http://www.pickfruit.co.nz/index.php
Walking School Bus
  • If you are interested in joining our current Walking School Bus or even starting a new route, contact Miss Jonson (Rm 12) who has the information. Email her on s.jonson@howickprimary.school.nz if you are interested.   
Poetry books
  • Please could poetry books be brought to school on Fridays. This is because children illustrate their poem of the week, ready to share with you at the weekend.
Reading books
  • Please could reading books be brought back EVERY day - if you have any reading books hiding at home from previous weeks, please could they come back too!
Triple P - Positive Parenting Programme
  • Verona is running a Triple P discussion group on the 1st June from 10am to 12.30 on Managing Fighting and Aggression
  • Any parents interested in attending need to register with Verona via email veronar@hcc.co.nz as soon as possible.

Appointments with teachers
  • Teachers are most happy to talk to you after school or from 8.30 - 8.50am
  • If you feel you need to discuss something in depth with your child’s class teacher, please feel free to make an appointment.

School Chaplain
  • The  Board approve the appointment of a School Chaplain whose purpose is to listen to children who need someone to talk to other than their teacher. The Chaplain will be Police vetted and be trained as a Chaplain.
  • The Chaplain does not replace the important role of teacher or parent but enables children to offload.
  • The Chaplain reports to the Principal only if she has a concern for the safety  of the child.
  • If a child chooses to use this service, they will bring home a note from the Chaplain, indicating this.

Lots of information this week!!

Prime Maths
  • Remember to pay your $11 for the PRIME maths books. This can be paid with cash to the classroom teacher, eftpos at the office or internet banking. The internet banking number number is 12 3089 0282406 00. Reference: your child's name and prime maths as reference. Thank you to those of you have already paid.
Mathletics & Reading Eggs

Bake Sale
  • Bake sale is on Tues 23rd May - please bring a $2 OR $1 coin ONLY
Adventure Playgrounds
  • These will be out of bounds for all children (including pre-school children) before school in Term 2 and Term 3 due to the bars and platforms being unsafe when wet
  • Please support the teachers by reminding your children that they cannot use the playground before school.
Uniform
  • Please, please, please could all items of uniform be named.
  • We often have to play the game ‘Guess who this belongs to”
  • If your child does lose an item of clothing, the missing item can be easily reunited with its owner if it is named!!
